The islands of Panarea and Stromboli are the two closest to Calabria of the archipelago. Panarea is the smallest of the seven islands and Stromboli is an active volcano.

Eruption: Stromboli is an active volcano, and is constantly erupting. The visibility of eruptions varies from explosive shows, flowing lava, or just the sound of the eruption when activity is low in the crater. In all cases the island with its massive volcanic cone covered in black lava and fine sand, emerging from cobalt blue crystal water, is quite a spectacle.
