The island of Salina is at the center of the archipelago. It lies just 3 nautical miles north of Lipari, 10 nm east of Filicudi, and 9 nm west of Panarea. The Sicilian towns of Sant'Agata di Militello and Milazzo are just 30 nm to the south of Salina.
Salina is known as the "greenest" of the Aeolian Islands and was the site of the famous Italian film: "Il Postino" (The Mailman). Salina is the second largest island of the archipelago after Lipari.
